with Laura Martinez-Bianco and William Noonan June 27-July 4, 2010
closed
THEREFORE, WE HAVE SPACE FOR ONLY 1 OR 2 MORE PEOPLE .
Laura Martinez-Bianco and William Noonan are both accomplished Plein Air painters of the Hudson Valley of New York State. Laura is a pastel painter and William's medium is oil; both are also experienced in watercolor and printmaking. Laura has been teaching workshops in this beautiful Tuscan countryside for 5 years now. This time she is joined by art instructor William Noonan, expanding the possibilities of exploring the Italian landscape with brush and color. These two teachers will work in tandem to offer each student a customized experience.
"Plein air painting challenges the artist to work on site and capture the landscape, the environment and the atmosphere." It is this challenge that draws Laura Martinez-Bianco and her classes to this style of landscape painting ... learning how to work on location, quickly capturing the light and color of a specific moment. William's plein air painting is known for its lively brushwork and fresh observation of color. "It's important for me to come to the landscape without preconceived notions. I try to let every new experience inform my painting," he notes. Learn more about William Noonan.
Classes will focus on composition, creating depth and the use of color and value. Students will learn how to approach the seemingly overwhelming landscape and distill it down to its essential elements. This class allows all students, regardless of experience, to create successful paintings inspired by the Tuscan landscape. Formal instruction with personal critiques will take place in each of the five morning sessions. Each class will conclude with a group critique and discussion of the morning's work. Afternoon sessions will be optional and informal, teachers will work in the field, offering students the chance to work along side them and observe their techniques. To take advantage of the wonderful evening light, participants may also choose to paint from about 5 to 7:30 in the evening, before dinner. Excursions to carefully chosen sites in the afternoon either to paint or explore will further enhance the class.
